Yes! You have been informed correctly.. When you think of vacation in Greece probably you heard about these two beauties of the Greek islands. Well, surely the reputation of these Greek islands has reached the highest limit it could get since they have been elected the most popular vacation destination in the world! We can comment that this was not made by accident. Sailing through these islands with the correct instructions will give you the opportunity to visit our beautiful destinations but will reveal secret aspects of the Greek landscape and scenery that will give you a reason to return year after year..
Let us have a closer look on what to expect when we talk about sailing in Mykonos.
Well, they call it ‘the island of winds’ and again it is a reputation that is true. The wind most of the times are on the high side or I should say on the maximum side that would allow sailing or to put it better, will make sailing fun.. The wind in Mykonos makes sometimes sailing difficult and one of our suggestions is to try to hire a large sailing yacht if you wish to sail through the specific area of the Aegean sea. The new marina is the place where you should be anchoring, the facilities keep improving year after year however still I would not characterize them as ideal! The old harbor (where the city is) is not available for sailing yacht moorings or anchorage. If you are traveling in June or September you will find slots in the new marina more easily than in July or August. In the high peak months you should be entering the port with your sailing yacht quite early if you want to have the privilege of finding an available mooring slot.
Ok.. We know that whatever we may say or suggest you will definitely going there, so here are the good news! There is not a chance that you will forget Mykonos! Not only because it is the ultimate party island, this is just for fancy title in the newspapers. The colors, the houses, the people in combination with the visitors, the golden sand in the beaches and the crystal clear blue waters is a result you will not forget for a lifetime.
Santorini on the other hand is truly amazing for her natural beauty.Sailing with a yacht in this imaginary Greek island is very nice in terms of scenery and waters but is not so friendly as per the facilities and what you could do on a walking distance when you anchor in the Vlychada port. The port reminds a port of the ancient times and someone could expect better facilities and premises. Nevertheless the slots are limited, while you need to be very cautious with the depth of the entrance that is most of the times around 2m. The port where all the sailing yachts try to moor is basically a fishing shelter that has been renamed to marina for reasons you can easily imagine.. BUT the problems stop there. Either when you decide to sail in the KALDERA area or when you just stop to feel the sunrise or sunset! Santorini with a sailing yacht is truly amazing. We will be happy to give you instructions and directions that will make your sailing adventure more simple and pleasant.
